- Teterboro Installing Jet Barrier ; Safety Beds at End of Runway to Halt Out-of-Control Planes
A system designed to stop out-of-control jets from careening off runways onto the busy roads around Teterboro Airport will be installed as soon as summer 2007, airport officials said last week. The $20 million project, which includes a relocation of Redneck Avenue in Moonachie, comes nearly four months after a 20-ton corporate jet crossed six lanes of Route 46 and crashed into a clothing warehouse.

- Yeager Airport: ; Runway Incident Is 6th Save Nationally
The safe stop of a US Airways Express flight in a bed of lightweight concrete at the end of Yeager Airport's main runway on Tuesday was the sixth save nationwide for the Engineered Materials Arresting System. Yeager is one of 28 U.S. airports that make use of an EMAS arrestor-bed system, which gives airports with terrain limitations a viable alternative to the Federal Aviation Administration's 1,000- foot overrun standard for commercial airports. An additional six airports plan to install EMAS systems by the end of this year.
