  • Mayors' meeting REC'd Constellation Energy Group of Baltimore announced it is donating renewable energy certificates to match 100 percent of the estimated energy use associated with the U.S. Conference of Mayors' 79th Annual Meeting in Baltimore. The RECs come from wind energy facilities in the United States. The RECs will match the energy use associated with hotel rooms and facilities, as well as several offsite locations where conference events are scheduled during the four-day meeting, which ends Tuesday. Constellation Energy is a corporate sponsor of the conference, and Mayo A. Shattuck III, the company's chairman, president and chief executive officer, is chairman of the host committee for the event.

  • It's the Science Barge, a two-year project of the nonprofit New York Sun Works to demonstrate that soil-short urban communities can grow large quantities of vegetables in relatively small rooftop spaces with a resourceful mix of greenhouse hydroponics, renewable energy systems such as solar photovoltaic panels and wind turbines and recycled waste building heat and rain water.
