Swiss investment firm buys stake in CHFCHF Development Finance International LLC, a holding company established by CHF International, a Silver Spring-based international development and humanitarian assistance organization, raised $1.6 million through the sale of a 20 percent stake to Geneva, Switzerland-based BlueOrchard Private Equity Fund. CHF owns microfinance subsidiaries in Lebanon and Romania, and has plans to establish others in Europe and the Middle East. BlueOrchard's entry marks the first of several capital injections that CHF Development Finance International is planning to raise from private-sector social investors, as the company consolidates CHF microfinance operations and expands into new countries.
