It's not my job as a higher education administrator to compete with the private sector. But if I don't get something started with entrepreneurial students-some of these sauces kids are developing, or foods or, in our case, helping to get a businesses started-if I don't hold their hand and get it going, nobody is. We're the best option they have and we are the economic engine, ultimately. We're not going to attract a large company to come here from Timbuktu and set up a manufacturing plant; we've got to grow our own, and those people are sitting in our classrooms. They're the people with ideas, and the energy, and the passion to build new businesses.

Last Monday, the United States Supreme Court, by a 7-2 vote, kicked another leg out from beneath traditional notions of parental authority and moral responsibility with its First Amendment decision invalidating a California law that restricted the sale of violent video games to minors.
Beatrice Campbell, the British actress who first played Eliza Doolittle in George Bernard Shaw's play, "Pygmalion" (later adapted into the musical and movie "My Fair Lady"), reportedly remarked about couples engaging in illicit sex: "I don't care what they do, so long as they don't do it in the street and frighten the horses.

We're taking concepts like the carbon cycle, energy efficiency and saving our natural resources, and communicating this information in the form of games and expeditions which kids play in our virtual world," explains Jorian Clarke, founder and president of KidsCom.com.
"The parents are as excited as the kids are," laughs Lori Doyle, a staff member at KidsCom.com who helped plan the itinerary. "It's cool that families will be able to meet for the first time in real life, after working together virtually to win the Team Challenge.
"It's our plan that all kids play in our virtual world and take the lessons they learn and become ambassadors for change in their homes, schools and neighborhoods," adds Clarke. "We tell them they have the power to make a difference. They don't need to wait fo...

In the mostly female dominated profession of teaching, this pilot project investigates how a group of males who are both fathers and teachers perceive their experiences as they navigate these dual roles. This qualitative study invited men who were teaching in early childhood, primary and secondary settings in New Zealand, and who were also fathers, to comment on their perceptions of how their dual roles impacted on each other. The themes emerging from their responses included empathy for parents, better understanding of children, benefits for own children, and being viewed as "more real" by their students, as well as being better equipped to understand schools and learning, improved personal and professional qualities, and more time available to spend with family.

Kids need more green time and less screen time. That observation, by New Mexico State Parks Director Dave Simon, was made recently as he congratulated State Parks employee Christy Tafoya for receiving the 2010 Outstanding Service to Environmental Education Award, presented by the Environmental Education Association of New Mexico.
Tafoya is education and resources program manager for State Parks, a division of the Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department. She was honored by the department for her role as director of the State Parks Outdoor Classroom Program.

They forgot the reason of it. The reason of it is to give equal rights and to further the education of everyone so that there's a balance in the world today. Black people have gotten very comfortable, some of them, and they've forgotten the goals. The goal is to provide education and equality for everybody, whether they be Arab, Chinese, Latino or whatever. Don't get up on the ladder you climbed because somebody went up it before you and look down and say, "OK, we're removing the ladder now, there are enough people up here." When we say the word "integration" we're talking about sharing resources. That's all we're talking about.
