ACCORDING to the Employees Provident Fund, many Malaysians will use up their EPF money early in their retirement. Perhaps the creation of private pensions may help fill the gap. THE existence of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) has many people assuming that enough is being saved for retirement. However, the unfortunate fact is that more than 70% of EPF members will exhaust their EPF money within 10 years of retirement.

Unfortunately, there are provisions in the Act as well as other legislations which do not appear to support the purpose of the compulsory workmen's compensation insurance scheme. This paper concludes with some recommendations to ensure that an injured worker is compensated.

LAWSUITS PERTAINING TO constructive dismissal have increased significantly over the years. In the last seven years alone, there has been a five-fold rise in the number of awards handed down by the Industrial Court of Malaysia - from 20 in 2000 to 97 at end-2007. In fact, constructive dismissal - which roughly means an employee quiting his job as a result of his employer's behaviour - is the third most common type of dismissal lawsuit heard by the Industrial Court (the other two being dismissals on the grounds of poor performance and misconduct).
