Many organizations do not consider the needs of readers when producing corporate publications. An Industry Week magazine survey has revealed that only 25% of the content of corporate publications is devoted to issues important to CEOs, such as product quality and the corporation's future; and that the content of publications is not driven by employee preferences. Employees prefer to have information about such issues as competition, the reasons for organizational decisions, and financial results. Other survey results include that the most common type of format for publications is the two-to-four-page newsletter, the most popular stories are those about personal news and employee recreation, and over two-thirds of stories are half a page or less in length.

Companies should update their employee policies and establish an active monitoring system to protect themselves from potential social media headaches, according to McAfee & Taft attorney Heidi Slinkard Brasher.
In still another example of technical advances eclipsing ethical and legal boundaries, Brasher said a number of for-profit and nonprofit organizations remain blind to the widening vulnerabilities that Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms present.
