NEW LEBANON -- The New Lebanon council passed an emergency ordinance Aug. 16 that will finally get work in the village's Lawson Avenue area started. Stormwater drainage there has eroded large sections of land and left sinkholes in residents' yards. Previous attempts at finding grant money have failed. But at the July 20 council meeting, municipal manager Anna Clark announced that the village had obtained a $287,000 state emergency grant.

TROY -- Despite a divided reaction from more than 75 residents at the Dec. 21 Troy City Council meeting, the council approved in a 7- 0 vote an emergency ordinance that allows the proposed 63-acre Stonebridge Meadows housing development to go forward. The project, located off Ohio 718 across from Concord Elementary School, calls for 135 parcels.
A three-year fight over the rezoning of a patch of ground on a golf course resulted in the city of Weldon Spring conceding the match. St. Charles County Circuit Judge Nancy Schneider in November handed down a judgment that ordered the city to rezone the six- tenths of an acre at Whitmoor Country Club for residential use. The city's Board of Aldermen met Dec. 13 and approved an emergency ordinance to rezone the property, City Administrator Michael Padella said. He declined to comment further, saying the board's discussion about the judgment took place during a closed session.
Clark County commissioners abruptly pulled an emergency ordinance from their agenda Tuesday that would have made it harder for a California company to change the site of its proposed methadone clinic. Residents of the Salmon Creek area have been fighting the siting of the clinic at the corner of Northeast Highway 99 and Northeast 117th Avenue and pressuring the company, CRC Health Corp., to find an alternative site. Commissioners worried that adopting the ordinance with its more onerous conditions on an emergency basis would have the unintended consequence of deterring CRC from finding another, less controversial location.
In what may be a blow to an energy company that wants to drill on Colorado Springs' Banning Lewis Ranch, the City Council will consider an emergency ordinance Wednesday establishing a six-month moratorium on oil and gas exploration. Council President Scott Hente said Tuesday the proposed moratorium would give the city "some breathing room" to ensure it has the right regulations and ordinances in place.
