• The Number Sense of Preservice Elementary School Teachers

The purpose of this study was to explore cognitive process used by selected preservice elementary teachers on basic types of problems involving number sense. The sample was selected from students in six intact entry-level mathematics sections of a course populated by preservice elementary school teachers. In the beginning of the semester, the instrument used to collect data was the Number Sense Test (NST). The score from the NST was analyzed. Six participants were randomly selected for individual interviews from students who scored in the top 10% and six participants whose scores ranked in the bottom 10 % on the NST to be interviewed. Ramirez Thomas Elementary School on Santa Fe's south side is only 7 years old, but it is the ninth-lowest achieving school in the state -- and the lowest in Santa Fe. It hasn't met state standards for Adequate Yearly Progress since 2005. It's not a bad school -- according to Robin Noble, who replaced founding Principal Carlos Alarid last year. • Bonham Students Enter Final Semester: ; Children, Teachers Recall Fond Memories of Elementary School

Bonham Elementary is entering the home stretch. Students will soon start the second semester of the 2010-2011 school year, the last semester ever for the oft-flooded Sissonville area school. Bonham students will move into Flinn Elementary this fall. This year already has brought changes for the small elementary school. For the first time in its 43-year history, Bonham doesnt have any fifth- graders those students moved to Sissonville Elementary. The schools longtime principal, Michael Pack, retired last year. New principal Melissa Wilfong started her new gig this summer with 12 teacher vacancies to fill. The only teachers remaining at Bonham were ones who will move to Flinn after the consolidation. HIGHLAND - Parents and former teachers of the now defunct Banner Elementary School are banding together to open a new private Christian School. Parent Troy Terbest says a meeting was held Tuesday night to discuss forming a new school board.
