Many writers wonder about the various paths to publication. Is pursuing a traditional publisher the best route for their work, or should they consider the alternate paths that have become seemingly more accessible with the digital age? Those alternate paths include publishing e-books (electronic books) or self-publishing print books with a company like Amazon.com or with a more traditional printer.
An Ambridge author claims in a federal copyright lawsuit filed Friday that a self-publishing company has been selling electronic copies of her book even though her 2005 contract with the company prohibits eBook sales. Korol Selley says that AuthorHouse, a Bloomington, Ind., subsidiary of London-based Pearson Plc, also refuses to provide her with an accounting of how many copies it has sold of the eBook version of "Dark Side.
Christopher A. Eddings, publisher and president of The Daily Record, has been named director of publishing operations for The Dolan Company, owner of The Daily Record. In his new role, Eddings will oversee the company's business and legal newspaper and electronic publishing platforms throughout the country. He will continue to be headquartered in Baltimore with The Daily Record.

MIAMI TWP., Montgomery County -- LexisNexis plans to eliminate up to 250 jobs by early 2009 at its suburban Dayton campus, according to a company announcement Monday, April 14. The company disclosed that the information technology division of its parent company, Reed Elsevier, announced plans last week to phase out 38 positions from now through May 10 at the suburban Dayton operation, where about 3,000 people are employed. It is the electronic publishing company's single largest operational site in the United States.
