AUBURN -- Provider Power, the parent company of Electricity Maine and ENH Power in New Hampshire, recently hired Candace Sanborn as vice president of marketing and William Fessenden as director of media strategy. Sanborn has more than 25 years of marketing experience, most recently with Encompass Marketing, which she co-owned for 13 years. Sanborn will oversee the Provider Power marketing effort, with a focus on the long-term strategic branding of ENH Power and Electricity Maine, as well as branding additional electricity supply companies that Provider Power will create as it expands into other states with deregulated electricity.
Coal contributes nearly $2 billion annually to Indiana's economy, supporting thousands of Hoosier jobs and keeping energy costs modest. It provides low-cost power to keep our state's electric bills affordable and our industries competitive. In this time of economic uncertainty and strained middle class family budgets, it would be unwise to institute regulations that cost jobs and raise household expenses. Unfortunately, some have not thoroughly examined the broader impact on our economy new federal regulations could have. The Environmental Protection Agency's proposed Utility Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT) Rule will put tens of thousands of jobs in our state directly at risk by affecting Hoosiers' utilities that rely on coal-fired power to keep our lights on an...

In light of the recent news concerning rising gas prices, the Solyndra fiasco and the Duke Energy coal gasification plant in Indiana, it is important to recognize that, as the CEO of Exelon Energy John Rowe said, "There is no such thing as a sort of Garden of Eden energy market in this country - never has been." While it is preferable to allow markets to function on their own, the energy market does not operate that way. The state and federal governments have been subsidizing energy, directly or otherwise, for years. As such, energy prices and solutions to high energy prices are convoluted and there is not a single quick and easy fix. For example, mineral leases for public lands are sold at prices appropriate for the reconstruction era. The right to mine a billion dollars or...
BOSTON, June 16 /PRNewswire/ -- With continued uncertainty surrounding the future of solar energy incentive subsidies, it has become increasingly clear that the levelized cost of solar electricity (LCOE) will be a critical long-term driver of solar demand and PV company profitability. As incentive policies continue to decrease, cost is going to play a critical role in how quickly solar energy becomes a viable, widely adopted source of electricity," said Michael Rogol, CEO of PHOTON Consulting. "Companies at each step of the solar supply chain need to cost benchmark their own performance and the performance of their supply chain. Ultimately, cost competitiveness will be one of the key factors to separate long-term winning companies from their peers.
WASHINGTON - More than 32 mostly coal-fired power plants in a dozen states will be forced to shut down and an additional 36 might have to close because of new federal air pollution regulations, according to an Associated Press survey. Together, those plants - some of the oldest and dirtiest in the country - produce enough electricity for more than 22 million households, the AP survey found. But their demise probably won't cause homes to go dark.
...The AP surveyed electricity-generating companies about what they plan to do and the effects on poweer supply and jobs. It was the first survey of its kind. The...
