  • Training local students for "green jobs" in emerging or evolving fields has been a new focus of education at Southwest Tennessee Community College. For more than a year, the school has been offering newly-enhanced courses to give students entry-level competency in a wide range of technical, energy-related jobs. Lisa G. Jones, associate professor of Electrical Engineering Technology at Southwest, explains: "In January 2010, Southwest received a $1.4 million Southern Energy Training Grant from the Department of Labor. The total grant came to $2.9 million, with the rest of the money being divided among the other Southern Energy Training Consortium members; Dyersburg State Community College, Jackson State Community College, Mid-South Community College, SEEDCO, National Electrical Contractor...

  • Waukesha County Technical College's Electrical Engineering Technology program recently received accreditation from the Technology Accreditation Committee of ABET Inc. WCTC is one of the few technical colleges that has been ABET- accredited in the Midwest.

  • Classes start Monday, Jan. 10, at Colorado's Ecotech Institute in Aurora. The college focuses on preparing students for careers in renewable energy and sustainable design. The Aurora campus opened in April 2010 and offers seven associate degrees and a certificate program designed by industry experts for those seeking careers in the clean technology. Courses include electrical engineering technology, energy and environmental paralegal, energy efficiency, environmental technology, renewable energy technology, Solar energy technology, sustainable interior design and wind energy technology.

  • nBrian K. Siegrist of Lititz graduated from Penn State University with a bachelor of science in electrical engineering technology on Dec. 18. He is the son of Jim and Lin Roussel of Lititz and Brian and Theresa Siegrist, also of Lititz.

  • Having been immersed in the Web while studying electrical engineering technology at Purdue, Brown linked up with a local Internet provider and started his first company, Computer Specialists. Brown said the lack of a solid marketing plan and a shoestring startup budget of $3,000 contributed to the slow growth.

  • EDUCATION Virginia Tech has named Robert McGwier the director of research of the Ted and Karen Hume Center for National Security and Technology and a research professor in its Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

  • Benjamin J. Patterson of New Holland has graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering technology. He also was named to the dean's list.

  • AUBURN -- Central Maine Community College President Scott Knapp has announced the following faculty appointments: Jeff Joiner has been named instructor in electromechanical technology. A native of Crown Point, N.Y., Joiner earned an associate's degree in electrical and electronics engineering technology at Vermont Technical College and a bachelor's degree in applied technical education at USM. He has 25 years experience in industrial and manufacturing engineering. He has served as an adjunct instructor at Southern Maine and Kennebec Valley Community Colleges.

Perkowski holds a master's degree in electrical engineering and telecommunications engineering technology from Pennsylvania State University. Also, the company promoted Brian Hansen, of Niagara Falls, to senior account manager.
