AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- After seeming to fall behind in the race for alternative-fuel vehicles, Chrysler said on Tuesday that it would produce an electric car for sale in 2010 and follow it up with a broad lineup of battery-powered vehicles.
Chrysler, the smallest of Detroit's three automakers, showed off three electric models, including a minivan, a sport utility vehicle and a two-seat sports car. Company executives declined to say which vehicle would go on sale first.

EPA and NHTSA, on behalf of the Department of Transportation, are issuing this joint proposal to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve fuel economy for light-duty vehicles for model years 2017-2025. This proposal extends the National Program beyond the greenhouse gas and corporate average fuel economy standards set for model years 2012-2016. On May 21, 2010, President Obama issued a Presidential Memorandum requesting that NHTSA and EPA develop through notice and comment rulemaking a coordinated National Program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions of light-duty vehicles for model years 2017- 2025. This proposal, consistent with the President's request, responds to the country's critical need to address global climate change and to reduce oil consumption. NHTSA is proposing C...

This years version of the West Virginia International Auto Show will feature the latest hybrids and electric-powered vehicles, including the plug-in electric Chevrolet Volt. The show will run from Jan. 28 to the 30th at the Civic Center. The Volt is bound to attract attention because it has been heavily advertised by General Motors but is not yet widely available for sale. Ruth Lemmon, president of the West Virginia Automobile and Truck Dealers Association, said the Volt is currently not available in West Virginia but we hope to have it available for consumers in the very near future. I understand that several Chevrolet dealers in West Virginia are keeping waiting lists. Other alternative fuel vehicles scheduled to be on display: The BMW X6 ActiveHybrid, Honda Insight, Mercedes-Benz S-C...

YOKOHAMA, Japan - Japanese automaker Nissan is testing a super- green way to recharge its Leaf electric vehicle using solar power, part of a broader drive to improve electricity storage systems.
Nissan's Leaf went on sale late last year, but the automaker is looking ahead to about five years time when aging Leaf vehicles may offer alternative business opportunities in using their lithium-ion batteries as a storage place for electricity.

Rockhill, Inc. is an electric utility operating in mid-western United States. The process of deregulation in electricity generation has transformed the utility's competitive landscape, prompting it to divest much of its generating assets, shift its focus to electricity transmission and distribution, and revise several of its financial policies. Among other things, the company has adopted the policy to lease, rather than purchase, any additions to its fleet of vehicles. While the vehicles it currently owns represent slightly over 40% of its entire fleet (with the remainder being leased), over time, its "lease-only" policy will eliminate owned vehicles altogether, since vehicles must eventually be replaced. In the meantime, though, it wishes to evaluate the economic advisability of speedi...
