Despite lawsuits challenging the state redistricting maps, filing for the primary election Aug. 7 began as planned on Feb. 28. A last- minute attempt by the state legislature to delay the initial filing date until March 19 stalled.
Jefferson County's districts for both Senate and House seats have changed dramatically. No longer do some districts have a territory completely inside the county.

PRINCE GEORGE - The U.S. Department of Justice has approved new election boundary lines in Prince George County.
The approved changes where adopted by the Prince George County Board of Supervisors on April 26 concerning the boundary between Election Districts 1 and 2. The 2011 redistricting plan and the realignment of voting precincts are for Prince George County and the Prince George County School District. The plan makes only minor adjustments to current district and precinct boundaries.

Sixteen of the 36 election districts in Niagara Falls reported erroneous totals on Election Night, the Niagara County Board of Elections disclosed Tuesday, meaning the Niagara Falls City Council race to be recounted today is nowhere near as close as first believed.
Errors also were found in North Tonawanda's 1st Ward, meaning the alderman race, which had been announced as tied, really isn't.

GLENDORA - A proposed ballot measure to split Glendora into five election districts is being called a "power grab" by a City Council member.
The city received official paperwork last week from a citizen's group notifying officials of its intent to gather signatures to get the measure on a city ballot.

El Paso County voters will choose a new clerk and recorder and new commissioners in two districts on Nov. 2. No incumbents are running because of term limits, although some of the candidates are vacating other elected posts. Here's a look at those races.

Several school districts in Clayton County have school board seats up for election. The candidate filing period for school board elections in Clayton County ends at 5 p.m. Aug. 4. Each term lasts four years.
The Clayton Ridge Community School District has four at-large seats - held by Janice Andregg, Daniel Berns, Jeff Hoffmann and JoLynn Moore - up for election.
