An Iraqi journalist I know who supports President Bush's policy told me that Iraq is in a race between solving the uprising problem and civil war. I share his concern. In some sense, this is obvious; although administration officials suggest that either the trend is not in that direction, or at least that we are not imminently at such a tipping point.
As a supporter of the president, and his Iraq policy, I nonetheless find it hard not to suspect that an aggressive military policy to put down particularly the Sunni insurgency is on hold until after the American election on Nov. 2. Of course, I can't prove that, and no one in the administration has said such a thing to my knowledge.

WASHINGTON - A year from Election Day, Democrats are crafting a campaign strategy for Vice President Joe Biden that targets the big three political battlegrounds: Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Florida, states where Biden might be more of an asset to President Barack Obama's re-election campaign than the president himself.
The Biden plan underscores an uncomfortable reality for the Obama team. A shaky economy and sagging enthusiasm among Democrats could shrink the electoral map for Obama in 2012, forcing his campaign to depend on carrying the 67 electoral votes up for grabs in the three swing states.

The formal end of the U.S. war in Iraq on Thursday enhanced neighboring Iran as a major, unpredictable factor in the U.S. presidential election of 2012. First, a look back: Iran's mullahs already had one opportunity to affect American politics, in 1980. Their seizure and occupation of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran for 444 days haunted President Carter's re-election campaign and - thanks to such developments as yellow ribbons, a "Rose Garden" strategy, a failed rescue operation and ABC's "America Held Hostage" program - contributed to his defeat. Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini rebuffed Mr. Carter's hopes for an "October surprise" release of the hostages and twisted the knife one final time by freeing them exactly as Ronald Reagan took the presidential oath.
Today, Iran has two potential roles ...

We've learned a lot since then," said [Beth Robinson], the chief strategist of the Vermont Freedom to Marry Action Committee - the organization that lobbied successfully for civil unions and then, last year, for same-sex marriage. "We're much better organized and prepared to work on elections than we were in 2000. Our strategy up until late 1999 was to keep the issue of marriage equality out of the legislature. Then, in less than an 11-month period, we had to throw together a legislative campaign and an election strategy - all before email was established, without nearly the infrastructure that we have now.
"I'm proud to take their help and very proud of my vote," said [Megan Smith]. One of VTFMACs two part-time staffers, Sheryl Rapée-Adams, recently helped her address 150 envelopes. ...

I want to thank each and every person who has given their time, energy and votes to my campaign for governor of Texas. Although this wasn't the outcome we'd hoped for, do not get discouraged," [Shami] said, according to the Texas Tribune Web site after conceding the race to the eventual winner, Bill White.
Shami was also inspired, as many other minority candidates have been in recent months, by the election of President Barack Obama in 2008. While the fellow Democrat said he doesn't always agree with Obama's political stances, his election is what gave Shami the extra push needed to make a run, which he funded in large part from his own pocket.
Shami also took a page from Obama's book in terms of engaging the youth throughout his campaign, a strategy he continued until Election Day, wh...

Republican lawmakers are gearing up to make "asset monetization" the governor's term for the sale or lease of state assets, such as the New Jersey Turnpike a key issue in November's election, when all 120 seats in the Legislature are up for grabs.
The GOP's first major salvo in that effort is an official attempt to make public any of Governor Corzine's requests for vendors and related proposals, contracts and other documents. Corzine's administration said Thursday it needs more time, and requested an extension of six days.

Lincoln County Commissioner Thomas Ramey Jr. says results of Tuesday's primary election are the result of good campaign strategy, not anything illegal.
We were better organized grassroots. Our strategy worked," said Ramey, who beat Democratic challenger Phoebe Harless in Tuesday's primary.

[Davis] answered this question by crafting a campaign strategy that was designed to appeal to general election voters. The first sign of this was his decision to vote against President Barack Obama's health care plan - the only member of the Black Caucus to do so. Then, gearing up for the primary election, he proceeded to reject the endorsement of powerful Black organizations in Alabama, such as the New South Coalition and the Alabama Democratic Conference, both of which proceeded to endorse Davis' White opponent, Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks. Sparks had criticized some of Davis' votes, including his vote against the health care bill, otherwise, he was a convenient foil.
I am proud of the way in which Blacks in Alabama used their vote to restore their sense of power over part of ...

To the Editor:
The GOP and Tea Party keep talking about and demonstrating their 2010 election campaign strategy. The only thing we really know is that (1) they defeated the jobs-related bill which knocked costly Medicare program hole in states' 2011 budget (2) congressional obstructionism (3) Repudiate and desert any GOP members who supports any of President Obama's initiatives (4) provides inflammatory anti- government rhetoric inciting domestic extremist groups (5) great right-wing overt media style, but no coherent messages of substance or clear understanding of these messages (6) strenuously supporting racist reincarnation (7) with rhetoric and seditious noise from Limbaugh, Palin, Hannity, Beck, McCain, etc., which person constitutes the GOP leadership (we know it's not RNC Steele)?
