Voters soundly defeated a Port of Vancouver tax hike in Tuesday's primary election, rejecting campaign slogans that the special levy's passage would create jobs.
Port district residents defeated the Industrial Development levy, which garnered only 28.4 percent.

Every election we hear the same old campaign slogans: No big government! Cut the city budget! Shrink the bureaucracy! Those slogans become reality Tuesday as the Colorado Springs City Council finalizes $16.8 million in cuts to the 2009 budget.
But before you cheer the inevitable layoffs, realize that Springs neighborhoods stand to lose some of their best friends in City Hall.

Christmas is on Sunday, and I've bought everything on my real list. Now all that's left is to shop for the fictional favorites on my annual character gift guide.
Leslie Knope, "Parks and Recreation": Campaign t-shirts. Now that her department has stepped up to run her campaign, Leslie is back on track for Pawnee's 2012 city council election. T-shirts are great promotional swag, especially since Leslie's name can be worked into some nice rhyming slogans, like "Leslie Knope is Pawnee's great hope" or "Don't be a dope. Vote Knope.

Guided by the same poll results, Republicans spout almost identical and equally threadbare slogans.
This weakening of Republican credibility has been exacerbated by the fact that Republicans have often been able to win in the West by using...

Politics is in the news every day, and we're reminding collectors that buttons, signs, medallions, bandannas and even canes were made for past election campaigns. They are a collector's challenge.
Prices for some old and rare political collectibles are high at auctions, but many items can be found for less at house sales or hidden in your own drawers or attic. Some old political collectibles have slogans or pictures from long-forgotten campaigns. A recent catalog for a campaign-button auction pictured these examples: a button with the words "If we ever needed him, we need him now" (Dwight Eisenhower, 1952, $18), an 1896 bug-shaped pin that represented the Gold Bug for William McKinley ($720) and the Silver Bug for William Jennings Bryan ($48), and a round button with a yellow ...
