When the ALA references the needs of older adults, it targets individuals at least 55 years old, and that's a lot of us. We're a segment of the population that needs more general information about health, health care, social security, financial planning, housing, independent living, elder law, caregiving, grandparenting, lifelong learning, community service, civic engagement and volunteering. The legal industry over the years has had an annual growth rate for revenue and profits per equity partner averaging 9.8% for growth rates and 10.6% for revenue. However, projections for 2007 have the growth and profitability rate down some and to not greater than 7% to 10% respectively. With an aging population, estate planning and elder law are also areas that will see growth. The collection business is the key to other areas of practice, including representation of creditors in bankruptcy proceedings, creditors' committees, and affiliated areas.

Medicare Part D is a "maze" of complicated rules, warned Helen Marks Dicks, director of the Coalition for Wisconsin Aging Groups' Elder Law Center, which is coordinating the work of government agencies and advocates helping make Wisconsin's senior citizens aware of the new program.

April 30 will mark the 30th anniversary of Saigon falling and the chronological end to a major event historically connected with the baby boomer generation. Identified as Americans born between 1946 and 1964, those who are members among the first half of the boomer years grew up with milestones ranging from the assassination of John F. Kennedy to Neal Armstrong taking one small step onto the moon and Richard Nixon self-destructing under Watergate. Once thinking of themselves as being forever young, the first wave of boomers has grown up, become the once-dreaded establishment and now face their own concerns about aging like no generation before them.
According to a study conducted by the Harvard University School of Public Health, in conjunction with the MetLife Foundation, the estimated...
