After months of planning, the new Portland Education Foundation will make its inaugural effort in January to support special programs in the city's cash-strapped public schools.
The foundation, which developed out of the former Portland Education Partnership, will hand out its first round of $300 grants to 10 of 26 teachers who applied for funding.

As office administrator for the DeSoto County Foundation for Excellence in Education , her job is all about receiving donations and giving to others. The foundation receives and maintains private funds to be used exclusively for education purposes, specifically grants to classroom teachers.

The fund's initial $3.3 million comes from the AFT and five prominent private philanthropic foundations; die money will support grants for education initiatives in which teachers unions and their partners will collaborate to improve schools, teaching and learning. Each affiliate's winning project, selected from a field of more than 120 proposals, showcases "public school entrepreneurs who want to push the envelope to improve student learning" and represent "bottom-up reform at its best," AFT president Randi Weingarten said at a media event to announce the first round of grant recipients.

Despite a dicey economy, more than $65,000 in direct grants to DeSoto County teachers through the Foundation for Excellence in Education will be announced Sept. 26 - and it's not too late to boost the total or apply for the grants.

ARLINGTON, Va., Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Celebrating its 21st anniversary, the Toyota TAPESTRY Grants for Science Teachers program, the largest science teacher grant program of its kind in the nation, is now accepting entries for the 2011-2012 program year.
Sponsored by Toyota Motor Sales, (TMS) U.S.A., Inc., and administered by the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), the program offers $10,000 grants to K-12 teachers for innovative science projects that enhance environmental science education in their school and/or district over a one-year period.

Some $680 million in federal money received by the state has already been spent to build roads, prevent teacher layoffs and keep police officers on city streets. State Department of Public Instruction spokesman John Johnson said that, since classes began in August, school districts have been spending their grants on teachers for special education programs, efforts to help homeless students, and new freezers and ovens to prepare school lunches.

The Warrick Public Education Foundation is pleased to announce the approval of 21 education grants from 15 different schools for a total of $9,593 during the spring 2005 funding period. These Education Grants ranged from $198 to $975.
The stated goal of the WPEF Education Grants Program for this school year was to fund $15,000 to $20,000 worth of education grants for teachers in the Warrick County School Corporation.
