Now that Beth's interests are a matter of public record (setting things on fire, drug trafficking), picking out a gift is much easier than it used to be. Criminal: The Deluxe Edition (Marvel, $49.99) collects the first three arcs of the noir anthology by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips. Whether you want to cater to Beth's vices or scare her straight. Criminal represents crime and punishment at its pulpiest. It's a collage of hard-knock lives, from the pettiest grifters to the coldest killers. The deluxe edition also includes Brubaker's essays on favorite crime flicks and extensive galleries of Phillips' painted cover designs. Don't bother it. The line between good and evil is often blurred in writer Ed Brubaker's work. In "Sleeper," published by DC Comics' WildStorm imprint, Brubaker and artist Sean Phillips explored the plight of a superpowered double agent sent to infiltrate a criminal organization.

, 95, a noted religious educator, died in Pomona, CA on February 24, 2010. Dr. Cully was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. to the late Myrtle and James Arnold. In 1936, she graduated from Adelphi College, Garden City, NY and next attended Hartford Theological Seminary, graduating in 1938 with a master's in religious ed. At Hartford Seminary, Dr. Cully met Kendig Brubaker Cully, a Millersville native, whom she married in 1939 and he died in 1987. When her husband became Minister of Education for First Methodist Church, Evanston, IL, Dr. Cully studied for her Ph.D. in a joint program with Garrett Theological Seminary and Northwestern University, graduating with the B.D. degree in 1954 and was awarded the Ph.D. in 1955. NEW YORK - Comic book artist Gene Colan, whose career spanned seven decades and illustrated the adventures of characters like Dracula, Batman, Daredevil and the wise-cracking fowl Howard the Duck, has died in the Bronx at age 84. Longtime friend and biographer Clifford Meth told The Associated Press that Colan died late Thursday at Calvary Hospital from complications of liver disease and cancer.
