A longstanding tradition will be observed on Tuesday when a baccalaureate farewell is held for the graduating Class of 2011 at Charleroi Area High School. Sponsored by the Charleroi Area Ministerial Association, the ecumenical event will begin at 7 p.m. at the amphitheater on the school campus. In the event of inclement weather, it will be moved to the elementary center cafeteria.

As a Congregational minister, for over 50 years I have participated in Catholic-Protestant dialogue. I was the second minister in the U.S. to participate jointly in a Catholic- Protestant wedding in a Catholic church (August 1964) while minister of North Olmsted Congregational, site of the first Catholic- Protestant ecumenical service in the Cleveland area (1964). When the nuns and Father Korab were ushered to their places of honor, the overflowing congregation rose; there was hardly a dry eye. WILTON -- Members of Franklin Area Ecumenical Ministry gathered Thursday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church to honor two Western Maine Community Action employees who have served with them as "partners in ministry" over the past six years. Tania Gage and Judith Frost from WMCA were acknowledged for their efforts working with Farmington area churches to provide emergency fuel assistance through the Franklin County Ecumenical Heating Fund.

American culture is not merely a blend of various cultures retaining their uniqueness, but a universal culture that has drawn its essence from its immigrants and from other countries. Hence, it can be called ecumenical culture. The idea of global homogenization of American culture cannot be accepted because all cultures imbibe American influence but maintain their individuality. A single cultural policy for America is impossible since it is a country of many races and many cultures.
