Ecuador volcano erupts; schools closed QUITO, Ecuador - Ecuador has suspended school in four towns near the Tunguarahua volcano as ash spews 2 1/2 miles into the sky, damaging crops and endangering the health of nearby residents.
BANOS, Ecuador (AP) - Rescuers searched for 30 people missing Friday after the devastating explosion of a volcano that killed at least one person and appeared poised for a new eruption. The head of Ecuador's Geophysics Institute urged people - including tourists who may be tempted to witness the spectacle - to stay away from the 16,575-foot volcano in the nation's central Andes.
