  • The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 made several significant changes to the US tax structure. The Act increased slightly the alternative minimum tax exemptions for 2008 to $46,200 for single individuals and $69,950 for married couples (one-half on a separate return) but left the phase-out thresholds unchanged.   • Listening to a presentation on "No Child Left Behind" the other night, I came up with an idea for improving the economy. I believe, following the philosophy and goal structure of NCLB, the federal government should adopt a sweeping reform project for economic stability in the United States. I call the reform No Worker Left Behind, or NWLB. Following the goals and timetable of NCLB, NWLB would work for full employment of every American citizen. Employment alone would, however, not be enough. Just as NCLB defines the goal for not being left behind as scoring at or above grade level, workers must be employed at a reasonable wage.
