NORMAL - Michelle Covi, director of the Ecology Action Center for nine years, will leave her post at the end of the year.
Covi started as a volunteer for the center shortly after it opened in 1996. Her husband, Tim Kelley, director of the environmental health program at Illinois State University, has accepted a job at East Carolina University.

My home and Weekly Deputy Editor Mark Anderson's were among five Monterey County demo sites where students installed L2L systems May 8. Two weeks later they'll install branch line systems, which recycle shower and bathroom sink water, at five more local homes. To officials' knowledge, these are the county's first graywater systems installed in accordance with the state's newly revised plumbing code.

NORMAL - Organizers of an effort to have Illinois State University students divert useable items from refuse to reuse are looking ahead to next year and aren't deterred by poor initial participation.
The Ecology Action Center served as coordinator, staffing a hotline for students to set up appointments for trucks to pick up non-perishable food, clothing and/or furniture during moving-out week at the end of the semester. Only eight students called, but EAC assistant director Kris Hall considered it "a good start.
