It was a light practice session at the TD Banknorth Sports Center on Wednesday morning.
The Quinnipiac men's hockey team was on the ice for only an hour or so, and coach Rand Pecknold made the most of the time by focusing on special teams play, one of his team's bigger areas of concern.

NEW HAVEN -- The sting of last season's early exit from the ECAC Hockey tournament subsided quickly for Yale, spurred by a strong showing at the NCAA regional.
-
BRIDGEPORT -- The term "survive and advance" has never been more appropriate and rewarding for the Yale hockey team, which lives for another puck drop tonight against Minnesota-Duluth, the No. 3 seed in the NCAA hockey tournament East Region. Yale advanced in a tense, 2-1 overtime thriller over Air Force, though in all honesty, after a stretch of four postseason games in which Yale outscored its opponents 19-2 -- 10-0 in the semifinals and final of the ECAC Hockey tournament -- this was not Yale's crispest night of hockey.
Yale coach Keith Allain concurred, though with the caveat that Air Force caused some of the turmoil and angst that are part and parcel with a one-and-done environment and two teams conditioned to compete with every ounce of energy remaining.

ATLANTIC CITY -- If game statistics aren't a sufficient measure of Ryan Rondeau's brilliant season in goal for the Yale hockey team, then how about the Pairwise Rankings, which lists Yale as the No. 1 team in the country and likely the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA tournament next week. If being the second-ranked goalie in the nation in goals allowed per game (behind Aaron Dell of North Dakota) isn't commendation enough, then how about the college hockey RPI, which finds Yale as the No. 3 team in the nation and best in ECAC hockey.
If ranking second in winning percentage to only Boston College's John Muse isn't selling you on the type of season Rondeau is having, then how about the national rankings which find Yale third, and best in the ECAC.
