As contract negotiations continue, the Uniontown Area School Board approved an early retirement incentive package last night for teachers who have more than 30 years of experience. Superintendent Charles Machesky said the offer includes a one- time payment of $10,000 for teachers who decide to retire at the end of the school year.

The Common Council will vote Monday on offering an early- retirement incentive under terms set in a new state law. Mayor Michael W. Tucker said this week that if there are enough retirements, the city might realize savings of about $600,000 in 2012.
The Plum School Board, faced with about a $2.4 million deficit in the proposed budget for 2011-12, on Tuesday night approved an early retirement incentive for the district`s teachers. The board proposes paying teachers who agree by May 24 to retire at the end of the school year a $1,000 a month payment for 36 months in addition to the pension and medical benefit package they receive.
LONG BEACH - In a bid to stem potential layoffs, the Long Beach Board of Education on Tuesday approved an early retirement incentive for eligible teachers, nurses and librarians. But the incentive, approved unanimously, will be offered only if enough employees sign up by the Jan. 29 deadline to make it financially viable. If too few workers sign up, the district will not proceed with the incentive.
SPRINGFIELD - An early retirement plan being offered to employees of the Illinois State Police is not part of a larger overhaul of the agency, a police spokesman said. State police spokesman Scott Compton said the early retirement incentive is designed simply to move out higher paid troopers in hopes lower paid cadets can transition into the agency.
