ANNAPOLIS - The county Board of Education unanimously passed a redistricting plan Wednesday for the schools at Fort George G. Meade. This fall, West Meade Elementary School will become an early childhood intervention center for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students who would otherwise have attended West Meade, Manor View and Pershing Hill Elementary schools.

New Jersey youngsters with developmental delays could see $4 million in treatment aid restored, under a bill introduced Monday by two Bergen County lawmakers. Funding for the Early Childhood Intervention Program, lost in the fiscal 2011 budget signed by Governor Christie, would be diverted from an autism research account that is replenished with $1 surcharges on motorists.

Proposed cuts to early childhood intervention programs in California would jeopardize our children's futures. Whether your child has a disability, developmental delay or is typically developing, the cuts will affect every child. If you believe every child deserves to start kindergarten ready and able to learn, you might be surprised to know that every year we as a nation fail to identify 1.45million children under the age of 5 who are at risk for developmental delays or other disabilities. These are children who enter school with learning and health issues that have a lasting, negative effect on their ability to learn and succeed.

When providers were asked to name their most significant problem with state/ federal requirements, they overwhelmingly cited the lack of interoperability with state reporting applications, EHR systems developed with state and federal funding, such as the Web Infrastructure for Treatment Services (WITS) and Texas' Behavioral Health Integrated Provider System (BHIPS), were created with the goal of significantly reducing costs to providers. Democrats will "set a new direction" by expanding health care for children, bolstering early childhood initiatives and investing in the young because this will reap great rewards in the future, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said yesterday at a national summit on children. The California Democrat convened a daylong gathering of doctors, academics and other early childhood specialists, who shared scientific data on early learning and generally echoed Democrats' assertions about the rewards of investing in early childhood programs.
