Staff Writer Since 2005, Jasmine Montanez has been working toward earning her associate degree in early childhood education at Harrisburg Area Community College.
OXFORD -- Oxford Hills Christian Academy has announced the addition of two new staff members this year, Sandra Benoit and Stephen Holbrook. Benoit is a graduate of Andover College with an associate's degree in early childhood education and a bachelor's degree in psychology with an emphasis on childhood development.
NEW HAVEN -- Gateway Community College's early childhood education associate degree program has become the first in Connecticut to earn accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children. The seven-year accreditation by the NAEYC's Commission on Early Childhood Associate Degree Accreditation means that the program's curriculum and faculty meet the highest national standards. Founded in 1926, the NAEYC is the largest voice for early childhood education professionals and the field of early childhood education in the United States.
Janine Austin of Dunkirk, who worked as director of Agri- Business Child Development at Newfane, died Monday in Hospice Buffalo, Cheektowaga. She was 48. Born in Pittsburgh, she earned a degree in early childhood education from Fredonia State College.
By any measure, child care is big business. A calculation by the state shows Maine parents whose children are in day care earn more than $850 million a year. In Kennebec, Sagadahoc and Franklin counties, those people spend an average of more than $100 per week for day care. That's the equivalent of two semesters of tuition at the University of Maine.
Rebecca Marie Carbo and Steven Adam McConchie were united in marriage at Raleigh Court United Methodist Church in Roanoke on Saturday, August 6, 2011. The Reverend Roy Miller officiated the ceremony. Rebecca is the daughter of Lieutenant Colonel and Mrs. Mark and Betsy Carbo of Oak Hill, Virginia. She is the granddaughter of Ruth Wheeler of Columbia, Connecticut, Mr. and Mrs. Mike and Stephanie Wheeler of Columbia, Connecticut, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Pete and Marie Carbo. Rebecca is a graduate of Oakton High School and currently attends Radford University where she is pursuing a master's degree in early childhood special education.
Mr. Tassos and Mrs. Dolores Paphites of Virginia Beach, Virginia, are pleased to announce the engagement of his daughter, Miss Kaitrin Anna Paphites, to Mr. Jacob Grey Young. The bride and groom to-be were introduced by a mutual friend. They both graduated from Roanoke College. Miss Paphites has a degree in Religion and Early Childhood Education, and is currently employed as a Preschool Teacher. Mr. Young holds a degree in Psychology and Marketing, and is currently employed as a Food and Beverage Manager.
