A man suspected in the killing of a cab driver Tuesday afternoon was shot by local law enforcement later in the day. The suspect was shot in the body in the North Park Apartments on Wellington Avenue, according to Vanderburgh County Sheriff Eric Williams. The suspect, whom Williams declined to identify, was taken to a hospital.

After a swearing-in ceremony Tuesday night, members of Charleston's new City Council set a date for a hearing on a dispute of last month's elections. Charleston Mayor Danny Jones, fresh off a Kanawha circuit judge's ruling earlier Tuesday that dismissed an emergency petition to stop the ceremony, was sworn in along with 21 members of the council.

CINCINNATI - Miguel Cairo hit a grand slam to help make Edinson Volquez's return to the majors a success and the Cincinnati Reds continued their dominance of the Chicago Cubs with an 8-2 win Tuesday night. Volquez (4-2), recalled earlier Tuesday from Triple-A Louisville, lasted a season-high seven innings. He allowed one run and seven hits while walking two and striking out five. He improved his career record against Chicago to 4-0 in six starts.

The most surprising development Tuesday in yet another Antonio Margarito licensing saga wasn't that the New York State Athletic Commission finally ruled to grant Margarito the requisite license to keep his Dec. 3 rematch against Miguel Cotto at Madison Square Garden. It was what Cotto said on a conference call earlier Tuesday, nearly six hours before the NYSAC approved Margarito's application. Cotto informed reporters -- and presumably promoter Bob Arum, who was on the call as well -- that he wouldn't fight Margarito on Dec. 3 anywhere other than Madison Square Garden.

A scaled-down, $50 million renovation and redevelopment of the former AM&A department store complex in downtown Buffalo could get started in six to nine months if a state law is changed to help with the financing, developer Rocco R. Termini said Tuesday. We plan on starting construction there in the next six months," Termini told the Buffalo Planning Board earlier Tuesday as he obtained a one-year extension of a previously approved site plan and state environmental review, which had expired.

The West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission announced Wednesday it will delay the Class AAA high school football championship game between South Charleston High School and Martinsburg High School. Bill Wooton, attorney for the SSAC, also confirmed the commission would appeal Kanawha Circuit Judge Carrie Websters decision to the state Supreme Court. He said he expected the appeal to be filed this morning. Webster on Tuesday granted another preliminary injunction to four South Charleston High players so they could remain eligible to participate in interscholastic athletics until further order of the court. Two veteran El Paso County Commissioners won't support a proposal regarding term limits by a newly sworn-in commissioner - just yet. Commissioner Darryl Glenn requested at Tuesday's board meeting that next week's agenda include a conversation about term limits. Glenn and other elected county officials took the oath of office earlier Tuesday.
