Alec English (cute kid, but no relation) just spent 19 days in the United Kingdom as a People to People Student Ambassador. People to People was founded in 1956 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower because he believed "peaceful relations between nations require mutual respect between individuals." The idea is to send young people abroad to learn about other cultures while sharing about our country. A potential ambassador must be nominated, recommended and interviewed before being accepted. The student must also pay expenses for the overseas trips People to People organizes. Alec doesn't know who nominated him, but two teachers and a Boy Scout leader gave recommendations, and once he was accepted, the fundraising began.
