• Pilot Program for Early Feasibility Study Investigational Device Exemption Applications; Termination of Acceptance of Nominations and Extending the Duration of the Program

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is announcing the termination of the acceptance of nominations for the Early Feasibility Study Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) Applications pilot program. This program allowed the submission of nominations from sponsors of innovative device technologies to participate in a pilot program for early feasibility study IDE applications. FDA is also announcing that the duration of the pilot program is extended to May 8, 2013, for sponsors that have already been accepted for the program.

• A Discrete Time Markov Chain Model for Predicting the Duration of a Retail Mortgage in the Non-Default States

In this study, a discrete time Markov chain model is developed for modeling the duration of retail loans with prepayment, past due, and default states. Prepayment and past due states describe the payment status of a loan. The default state is defined as charge-off on the loan due to bankruptcy, death, or other causes. A bank could use this model to predict its contingent assets status based on the probability and duration of being in the non-default states. This is vital for effective management of a Bank's assets.

On October 6, 2009, at approximately 3pm, a law enforcement bulletin notified officials at the University of West Florida (UWF; Pensacola) that a suspect in a cold-case murder investigation was spotted at the periphery of the campus. A manhunt ensued and the entire campus was put in lockdown. This study examines a) the specific manner in which faculty and staff (N=52) became aware of the crisis, b) mode of keeping abreast of developments of events, c) perceived threat level, and d) efficacy of organizational response. Results indicated that personnel had several electronic modes of communication (text message, university alerts) initially and during the course of the lockdown (about 2½ hours), experienced little anxiety, but felt somewhat restrained.
