Acting Governor Codey on Wednesday signed into law a package of bills that treats prescription drug traffickers like narcotics dealers.
The bills prohibit unlawful possession or distribution of prescription drugs, restrict the sale of certain over-the-counter cough medicines, and establish licensing requirements for pharmaceutical wholesalers.

To those who have worked on federal narcotics legislation for decades, the notion of state referenda allowing "medical" marijuana, as an exception to federal drug trafficking laws, has always been an oxymoron.
There was nothing "medical" about smoking marijuana; the two words were mutually exclusive. The idea made no more sense than "medical glue sniffing, or free-lance "medical heroin injection." It was dangerous, indulgent nonsense at best, a cynical hoax at worst. Thanks to the U.S. Supreme Court's lucid ruling this week, the hoax is over.

A man affiliated with a violent North Side drug trafficking ring pleaded guilty last week to violating federal drug laws, federal prosecutors said.
Jordan McKoy, 20, no address given, admitted to conspiring to distribute, and possessed at least 100 grams of heroin between January 2010 and March 2011, prosecutors said. A federal grand jury in June named McKoy as one of 41 members or associates of Manchester OG's charged with being part of a drug ring.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Authorities described this week's raids on San Francisco pot clubs as one of the largest drug crackdowns in the area in recent memory, and said the arrests were the first step in uncovering a major international drug operation.
S. Attorney Kevin V. Ryan said agents raided three pot clubs that operated as fronts for marijuana and Ecstasy trafficking, and warned that federal drug laws would be strictly enforced even in cities tolerant of medical marijuana.
