A yearlong drug trafficking investigation resulted in the seizure of 220 pounds of marijuana and $10,000 in cash from two Columbia residences, police said today.
The drugs, which have a street value of more than $600,000, and cash were recovered during simultaneous searches at 10:40 p.m. Wednesday at 501 Himalayas Drive and 4647 Brandon Woods.

COLUMBIA - A state drug trafficking charge was dropped against a co-defendant who faces federal charges in a cocaine conspiracy case that includes South Carolina's former treasurer, prosecutors said Wednesday.
A judge said Michael Miller, 25, could be released as early as Wednesday after his mother signed a $25,000 secured bond for her son. Mr. Miller and former state Treasurer Thomas Ravenel were each indicted in June on a charge of possessing with intent to distribute less than 500 grams of cocaine.

A Kansas City man was charged with drug trafficking and distribution charges after Columbia police found "a large amount" of powder and crack cocaine in his hotel room on Friday.
Columbia police arrested Timothy L. Taylor, 33, of Kansas City on suspicion of first-degree drug trafficking and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute after officers said they found powder cocaine, crack cocaine and cash in the suspect's hotel room.

Federal officials came to Columbia this afternoon to announce a 34-count indictment naming 16 members of an alleged drug- trafficking conspiracy that also has been responsible for drive-by shootings in Columbia and Jefferson City.
A news release from the U.S. attorney's office announced that 14 Columbia residents as well as a resident of Fayette and a resident of Kansas City were engaged in a drug gang known as the Cut Throats. The federal charges involve allegations of the sale of crack and powder cocaine as well as marijuana. The indictments allege activities from about January 2007 to September 2008.
