Niagara County sheriff's deputies said they charged an Olcott man with driving while intoxicated after he passed a stop sign at West Creek and Ide roads and then crossed the center lines several times. Kevin C. Burkwit, 23, of Washington Street, was stopped at 2:13 a.m. on West Creek Road and was found with a blood-alcohol reading of 0.15 percent, nearly twice the legal limit. He admitted to deputies that he had consumed beer and "Irish car bombs," and also was charged with driving to the left of pavement markings and failure to stop, according to a sheriff's report.

A breath test indicated that D.C. Council member Marion Barry was not intoxicated, but Secret Service officers testified yesterday that he smelled like he was and appeared to be intoxicated.
