The authors investigate the "double jeopardy" (DJ) concept in the domain of financial services, focusing on the mutual funds sector of the market. Based on more than three hundred responding investors of mutual fund services, the authors provide evidence that a DJ effect does exist for banks offering mutual funds in Kuwait.

• A Preliminary Study of Double Jeopardy in Selected Retailers

The authors investigate the "double jeopardy" (DJ) concept in the domain of retailing. The authors show that DJ is moderately evident within health clubs and medical clinics, but most likely does not exist within convenience store retailers. The authors attempt to test which of three alternative explanations for market share rankings is supported: (1) a familiarity effect, (2) an experience effect, or (3) a design effect. No evidence is found to support the design effect. However, either of the familiarity effect or the experience effect may be a viable explanation for market share (and DJ), depending on the type of retailer. WASHINGTON - The U.S. Supreme Court Thursday limited the Constitution's protection against double jeopardy in cases involving multiple charges and deadlocked juries. The 6-3 decision holds that a jury's unanimous but tentative vote to acquit a defendant on some charges does not count as a verdict.

Take a look back at the O.J. Simpson trial. Unlike Vick, Simpson was tried and acquitted of the murders of his wife Nicole Brown-Simpson and her "friend" Ronald Goldman but that was not the end of his legal difficulties. Immediately after the criminal proceedings concluded, a "civil" trial followed and Simpson was convicted of at least "being partially responsible" for the murders and was stripped of a significant amount of what was left of his fortune. There was not sufficient evidence to convict Simpson in a criminal proceeding of the homicides but he was judged and convicted to be financially responsible to the Brown family and the survivors of the Brown estate as a result of his wife's death.
