ST. LOUIS -- Eight years as an assistant coach with the Philadelphia Eagles gave Steve Spagnuolo all he needed to see from Donovan McNabb.
The St. Louis Rams' coach was there when McNabb arrived as a first-round pick from Syracuse, watched him develop into a Pro Bowl quarterback and team leader, and then from the other side of the field as Giants defensive coordinator.

PHILADELPHIA -- Michael Vick walked off the field blowing kisses to adoring fans carrying signs that read: "Vickadelphia" and "On the road to Vick-tory!
That was in Jacksonville last week.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Security guards asked a fan to remove a replica of Donovan McNabb's maroon Washington Redskins jersey he was wearing on the sideline at Eagles training camp Wednesday morning.
The fan, 43-year-old Jim Devlin of King of Prussia, Pa., said he removed it without complaint. Devlin added in an interview on Philadelphia radio station 97.5 The Fanatic that the guard who confronted him said the request had come from Coach Andy Reid.

Donovan McNabb tossed touchdown passes on a broken ankle and played an NFC title game with an agonizing rib injury.
Now McNabb is taking his biggest health risk yet: playing with a severe abdominal strain that likely will need surgery and definitely will leave the five-time Pro Bowl quarterback in discomfort and pain all season.

We knew this day was coming, didn't we, Washington Redskins fans? Sooner or later, Mike Shanahan was going to get sick and tired of Rex Grossman being Rex Grossman - just as, last December, he got sick and tired of Donovan McNabb being Donovan McNabb.
As it turns out, it happened sooner - in Game 5, coming off a bye week. After Grossman threw his fourth interception Sunday (and third to Philadelphia Eagles strong safety Kurt Coleman), Shanahan could take it no longer. In went John Beck, the 30-year-old mystery man; out went Rex, about whom Redskins Nation knows far too much.

Which is greater cause for celebration, that the Redskins have the 10th pick in next week's draft or that they still have their second-round pick? I'd say the latter. For one thing, having the 10th pick usually means you aren't very good (unless it's somebody else's 10th pick). For another, the Redskins have had an annoying habit of trading their second-rounders - and did again last year when they swung a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles for Donovan McNabb.
How'd that work out?
