According to Russ Russell, executive director for development for the Eastern division of the Salvation Army, the lack of funding could force the Salvation Army to close the Denby Center Maternity Program, which would force the 80 to 100 teen and preteen girls served there each year to find pre-natal and post-natal assistance elsewhere.
Also at risk is the substance abuse treatment program at the Salvation Army's Harbor Light center. Approximately 40 to 50 people utilize this program each week, according to Russell.
There is some hope for the Denby Center Maternity Program, however. A donor has come forward offering to provide a dollar-to-dollar match if the Salvation Army can raise the $107,000 through charitable donations.
