SHELTON -- Two city men are accused of stealing a donation box filled with money aimed at helping wounded veterans. Police Sgt. Robert Kozlowsky said police were dispatched to the Stop & Shop supermarket at 898 Bridgeport Ave. Sunday at about 5:15 p.m. The Veterans of Foreign Wars was raising money there for Operation Gift Card, which helps wounded veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, when the donation box was stolen, police said.
Police sent a description of the suspects and their vehicle to area police departments. Bridgeport police stopped a vehicle matching the description shortly afterward.

A donation box was stolen from the Orono Bog Boardwalk, which begins in the Bangor City Forest, sometime in the past two weeks, according to the boardwalk's founder and first director Ron Davis.
Davis, now a volunteer, went to collect donations from the box around 6:15 a.m. Monday but found that someone had cut through the padlock and carried off the heavy box.

A donation box placed at the Flight 93 Temporary Memorial in Somerset County has revealed a major battle brewing over land that one victim's family member calls the "soul" of the permanent memorial planned to honor those aboard the flight.
Family members said the metal donation box, installed by property owner Mike Svonavec, degrades the memory of their 40 loved ones, who died when hijackers took over the plane on Sept. 11, 2001.

ARVADA, Colo. - A land mine found in a suburban Denver Goodwill donation box forced the evacuation of a strip mall.
The rectangular, olive-green box with the words "Front Toward Enemy" raised the suspicions of Goodwill workers last week.

NORTH HAVEN -- Police are looking for help in identifying a suspect who is wanted in connection with three separate thefts of charity donation boxes from different local Dunkin' Donuts stores in the past few days, Capt. James Merrithew said. In one case, video surveillance shows the man using a hand tool to cut a cable used to secure a donation box on the countertop. The donation box was for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Merrithew said.
The surveillance also shows the men entered with a dark bag and placed it on the floor. When the attendant turned to fill an order, the man was seen cutting the cable, placing the box in the bag and leaving the shop.

CENTERVILLE -- A Waynesville man has pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor theft charge in connection with the Sept. 3 theft of the Special Wish Foundation donation box from Bill's Donut Shop.
Michael Truesdale, 24, of Waynesville was arrested by Centerville police arrested about noon Tuesday, Sept. 15.

A Battle Ground man admitted to stealing a cash box on Wednesday used to collect donations at the citys community center, police say.
Micah Crowson, 23, was located by Battle Ground police and allegedly admitted to the 12:30 p.m. theft. The box contained more than $100, according to a police news bulletin. When police located Crowson, he led police to the missing donation box.
