Donald E. Donahue Sr., a World War II veteran and retired Buffalo police detective sergeant, died Saturday in Brothers of Mercy Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Clarence. He was 89. Mr. Donahue was born in Buffalo's Old First Ward and graduated from Technical High School in 1939.

Peggy Donahue never planned to go into bicycle repair, but that, like a lot of life, just sort of happened. She started working with her husband, Donald Donahue, when they opened their shop in the 1950s. The East Side Cycle & Hobby Shop, 2031 N. Farwell Ave., first sold new bikes and hobby supplies, but later specialized in bicycle repair as East Side Cycle.
The Westmoreland Bar Association is offering scholarships to Westmoreland County residents for the 2011-12 school year, who are first-, second- or third-year law students. Available scholarships include: Wayne R. Donahue Memorial Scholarship, to a student enrolled in a Pennsylvania law school; Donald Laird Hankey Memorial Scholarship, to a student enrolled in any law school; and the Honorable David H. Weiss Memorial Scholarship, to a student enrolled in the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
