GREENWOOD -- The list of owners of Mt. Abram ski area includes: : Brothers Don, Norton and Stuart Cross
This is country music, indeed. Unlike a lot of superstars, Brad Paisley does more than just pay lip service to the tradition. This Is Country Music" follows the familiar Paisley pattern, going for a split between dark realities and sunny pleasures. Much of it stands with his best: "A Man Don't Have to Die" and "I Do Now" are sobering ballads that never get maudlin; "Eastwood" is a brisk western instrumental that showcases his guitar prowess; "Life's Railway to Heaven" takes a bluegrass spin on the gospel standard with Marty Stuart and Sheryl Crow; and "Don't Drink the Water" is a rousing honky-tonk lark with Blake Shelton.
, 81, of Mountville, died Friday evening at the Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of Myrle Dietz Rossi to whom he was married for 56 years. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Anthony and Loretta Stuart Rossi. Don retired in 1994 after 30 years of service from Caterpillar Inc. in York where he worked as a machinist in the extruding line. An avid Eagles and Phillies fan, Don's true passion was singing. He was a member of the Red Rose Quartet and for many years was a soloist and choir member at the former Salome United Methodist Church. In addition, he enjoyed bird watching, woodcarving and John Wayne movies. Don also served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
You're kidding!" exclaimed the Coast Guard's Lt. Commander Meyers when we told him about this slowly unfolding tragedy in the making. "I don't know," said the commander. "Try the city. "I don't know," says [Frank Reilly]. "Why don't you ask Stuart?"
We love this lie told on the hit TV show, "24." The bad guy has information we need to save lives; we have 24 hours to get it; and though it violates our morality, we must torture the guy until he tells us what we need to know. We call it "the price of freedom" and tell ourselves that making these hard decisions keeps our children safe. On the other hand, we don't like retired Col. Stuart Herrington telling us that, "The first piece of advice for anyone who really wants to understand interrogation is to zero out and ignore virtually everything that ...[you have] ... ever seen on either television or in Hollywood movies.
[Michael Huff] isn't exaggerating. "(Defensive backs coach) Chuck Pagano's in there putting up slides, like 100 miles an hour," third-year free safety Stuart Schweigert says. "I mean, you don't even have enough time to write down what's going on. Put your head down for a second and you've already missed three defenses.
The county and its cities recently got into a tussle over who should be responsible for RHND numbers in the county's unincorporated areas. ABAG leaves that kind of decision up to local jurisdictions. And in Marin, that's not an easy decision. Generally, ABAG prefers to put the responsibility on the cities because they are the agencies that ultimately provide services for new homes in unincorporated areas. During the last RHND-number round, the cities assumed a 75-percent share of the housing numbers for "spheres of influence in unincorporated areas," says [Alex Hinds]. An ABAG group developing a preliminary RHND plan for 2009-2014 put [Marin] in a group of counties that have no "urban-centered general plan" and stated that cities in Marin, as well as those in other counties, should he r...
