Phil Mickelson rolled in his pre-Masters interview Tuesday. He chided Augusta National. He playfully jabbed the world's No. 1 player. He even referenced the fall of his career-long adversary. Mickelson on his drive into Augusta National hours after severe storms swept in and felled a tree on Magnolia Lane: "I was surprised, you know, that it wasn't replaced the first half hour. I don't understand what happened. I think Chairman Payne must have been sleeping.
JERICHO, Ark. -- It was just too much, having to return to court twice on the same day to contest yet another traffic ticket, and Fire Chief Don Payne didn't hesitate to tell the judge what he thought of the police and their speed traps. The response from cops? They shot him. Right there in court.

Even though I've seen quite a few movies in theaters recently, it's been about a year since I've seen an action movie that had me consumed in its plot. Enter Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. I can sum up this movie with a few words: humorous, believable action, and Wow! I should also mention the acting. Each lead actor, Jessica Alba, Michael Chiklis, Chris Evans, and loan Gruffudd, fell into their characters with ease. This is refreshing, seeing as I can always tell when an actor is struggling with a character. I also think Director Tim Story, a fine and intellectual brother, did a great job bringing Don Payne's and Mark Frost's script to life. He directed the first Fantastic Four as well as Taxi (with Queen Latifah), and the first Barbershop; not bad. I only have two pet peev...
[Jonny Gammage]'s death will make headlines once again this month, as local news outlets revisit its anniversary. Local filmmaker Billy Jackson has made a documentary about Gammage's death and its fallout [see sidebar, "Framing the Debate"], to be released this month. "We want as many people as possible to see it and get engaged," says Jackson. But while Jackson believes police accountability is a vital issue, he wonders if the public will stay engaged. "[I]t's going to be hard to maintain people's attention even after [the film] is shown," he says. I can't speak to that," says O'[Connor] spokesman Dick Skrinjar, of O'Connor's actions on the council. "But his focus now is on professionalizing the management of the city, including the police department, with better training, management ...

Exhibiting zero interest in explaining the internal logic of this cartoon world (or even, for that matter, explaining what the G in G-Girl stands for), Don Payne's screenplay instead piles on all sorts of off-puttingly raunchy sex jokes. It's a leering, smutty movie. How this thing got a PG-13 rating is beyond me, but I wound up sincerely embarrassed for all the parents in the theater who'd foolishly brought their young children to a flick that's being advertised as though it's Sky High 2.
