Local art collector Greg LaChapelle won a $22,177 default judgment against [Joshua Baer] last October in a suit claiming Baer failed to return or pay for a Navajo blanket dating to 1875 and several Chippewa stone fetish carvings. LaChapelle still hasn't collected a dime of the judgment, says his lawyer, Daniel J O'Friel. "There is no debtors' prison anymore in our country," O'Friel says. "We have to continue to hound Mr. Baer and impress upon him that we will not go away, and hopefully we'll work this out. I'm optimistic, and I don't think that my career being an art dealer is over," Baer says. "There's no question it's a difficult period."

BLOOMINGTON - Woodford County's Extension director will temporarily lead McLean County's unit too, following the recent retirement of Don Meyer, officials announced Friday. Cynthia Baer, a Woodford County native who has led that unit for almost three years, will work two days a week with McLean County's Extension office, through Dec. 31. Extension officials are expected by November to name a permanent director for a new unit that will include Woodford, McLean and Livingston counties, part of a statewide cost-cutting reorganization plan.
