This announcement governs the proposed award of mandatory grants under the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act (FVPSA) to States (including territories and insular areas). The purpose of these grants is to: (1) assist States in efforts to increase public awareness about, and primary and secondary prevention of, family violence, domestic violence, and dating violence; and (2) assist States in efforts to provide immediate shelter and supportive services for victims of family violence, domestic violence, or dating violence (42 U.S.C. 10401 et seq.). This exploratory mixed methods survey yielded a comprehensive picture of safety planning practices with children and adolescents in Texas emergency domestic violence shelters. Shelter personnel described safety planning goals, methods, timing, and contents and views of best practices, barriers, and risks. The study's approach was guided by Proctor's (2005) recommendations for developing the research base for an understudied intervention. Results indicate that the practice is widespread. Shelters consider developmental differences and use multiple methods and timing strategies. Views on goals and risks varied. A domestic disturbance Wednesday led to the arrest of a man on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic violence charges and possession of a weapon by a previous offender.
Colorado Springs police were called to the 3000 block of Dublin Boulevard at 7:17 p.m. about a domestic disturbance. They found a female victim with three children inside the house and were told that the male suspect was in the lower part of the house with a handful of ammunition and access to a handgun.
