NEW YORK (Reuters) - Dollar General Corp. missed Wall Street profit expectations after taking markdowns to clear slow-selling apparel out of its stores, sending shares down about 5 percent.
Gross margins in the company's fiscal first quarter were lower than expected due to the need to cut prices on clothes, said ThinkEquity analyst Mark Mandel.

ONTARIO - The prospect of winning one of about 300 new retail jobs attracted a crowd of applicants to a job fair that discount chain Dollar General held as it prepares to expand into Montclair and several other cities in the Inland Empire.
Shortly after noon Thursday, nearly 100 hopefuls had packed themselves into a room at the Best Western Plus Ontario Airport Hotel where Dollar General managers accepted applications during the first part of a two-day job fair.

OTTAWA -- Ottawa police are investigating an armed robbery Tuesday night at a Dollar General store in which two employees were injured.
The robbery occurred about 8:40 p.m. at the Dollar General store at 2212 Princeton St.
