Mr. Stewart was a member of Old Macedonia Baptist Church, North Augusta, where he served as Chairman of the Deacon Board, Sunday School Superintendent, and the director of the Boys Club. Mr. Stewart was a member of the American Legion Post #235, North Augusta, a member of the North Augusta Optimist Club, and a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He also served in the United States Air Force. Mr. Stewart retired from the Georgia Dept. of Corrections Education Dept. He was a 1961 Jefferson High School graduate. He received his B.S. degree in Math from Clafin College and was a member of Clafin Alumni Association.

DALLAS - Community Health Systems Inc. said Monday that it has agreed to buy Triad Hospitals Inc. for about $5.1 billion, topping a previous bid by private-equity buyers.
Community Health said the deal would make it the nation's largest publicly traded hospital company. It would own or operate about 130 hospitals in 28 states and control more than 18,700 beds.

On Monday, St. Joseph Hospital will slash 100 jobs, citing failed negotiations with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia Inc., its largest managed care contractor.
The across-the-board cuts will not affect doctors but will include nursing positions, technicians and office workers, St. Joseph CEO Andy Lasser said.
