UTICA -- President Bush declared a federal disaster area in four north-central Illinois counties Friday after a tornado plowed through the center of this small town, killing eight people in a tavern.
The declaration makes LaSalle, Putnam, Will and Kankakee counties eligible for federal assistance, said Mike Brown, an undersecretary in the Department of Homeland Security.

PEORIA - With parched cropland already declared a federal disaster area across most of Illinois, state officials are turning their attention to water supplies they fear could be the next drought victims if the skies don't open up with rain by fall.

SPRINGFIELD -Three Illinois counties in the Quad-Cities area have been declared disaster areas in the wake of Monday's severe storms.
In issuing the declaration for Rock Island, Bureau and Henry counties on Tuesday, Gov. Rod Blagojevich said the designation will help communities get assistance needed for the recovery process.

Pontiac - Livingston County has been added to the state disaster declaration, bringing the number of counties that can now get expanded access to state emergency resources to 44 and allowing Illinois to pursue federal relief and support.
