On 15 May, dubbed the "Sunday of Liberation," the site had initially called for multiple million-person marches to advance on "historical Palestine" - in reference to Israel - from starting points in Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon. This was later scaled down, however, to the staging of demonstrations outside Israeli embassies in Jordan and Egypt (the two Arab states that have diplomatic relations with Tel Aviv), along with simultaneous marches near Israel's boundaries with Syria, Lebanon and the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip.
From Tahrir, we will march to the Zionist embassy, UN offices and certain multinational store chains known to have Zionist sympathies," [Mounib Mohamed], who is also the administrator of the Facebook .page "Egyptians for the Intifada," told IPS. He went on t...

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) - President Bush warned Tuesday that surging oil prices threaten the U.S. economy and urged OPEC nations to boost their output. His plea drew little sympathy from oil-rich Saudi Arabia, which said production levels appear normal.
Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice also pressed Arab countries to do more to reach out to Israel and help achieve a Mideast peace agreement before the president's term runs out next January. Avoiding specific orders to Arab allies, Rice said the delicate question of diplomatic relations with Israel, the Arab world's historical enemy, was "another matter and undoubtedly down the road.

Mauritania, the sprawling Islamic nation on the northwest coast of Africa, this week reaffirmed its commitment to fight terrorism shoulder to shoulder with its Western allies and to continue its diplomatic relations with Israel.
We have said no to terrorism and we shall not back away from our diplomatic ties with Israel," Mauritanian Foreign Minister Ahmed Ould Sid Ahmed said at a meeting with editors and reporters of The Washington Times on Monday.

The United States and Israel are said to be trying to dial back a sense of mutual outrage that has developed over the blindsiding of Vice President Joe Biden last week in Israel, followed by complaints from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, press secretary Robert Gibbs and presidential counselor David Axelrod expressing U.S. outrage at what Mrs. Clinton called an "insult to the United States." What should be de-emphasized, instead, is the curious notion that it is up to the United States to design and broker an Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement and micromanage the process of establishing a two-state solution.
If the United States contented itself with having diplomatic relations with two entities "Israel and the Palestinian Authority - that are in the midst of what appears to be a ...

And-establishing the most ineffective foreign policy since King Canute's-Carter said, 'Our policy must reflect our belief that the world can hope for more than simple survival and our belief that dignity and freedom are fundamental spiritual requirements ... we have reaffirmed America's commitment to human rights as a fundamental tenet of our foreign policy. The fundamental elements of a final agreement have been clear since 2000: a Palestinian state in Gaza and the West Bank in return for a declaration that the conflict is over, recognition of Israel's right to exist, guarantees of Israeli security, diplomatic recognition of Israel and normalization of its relations with Arab states.

Not content with undermining the war effort in Iraq, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has apparently set her sights on Turkey, a NATO ally and one of the few Muslim-majority nations in the world that is a democracy. Mrs. Pelosi has scheduled a vote in April on a resolution (H. Res. 106) that accuses Turkey's Ottoman Empire of perpetrating "genocide" resulting in the death or displacement of nearly 2 million Armenians between 1915 and 1923. With the United States currently fighting a war for its very survival against radical Islamists, Congress should have much more important priorities than revisiting events that occurred more than 80 years ago particularly when doing so has the potential to do serious damage to U.S. relations with Turkey, whose cooperation will be critical to U.S. efforts to...

This article focuses on the development of Qatar's unique relationship with Israel, and explains the relationship as just one component of the Emirate's intricate and bold foreign policy. This discussion identifies both the logic behind Qatar's regional policy initiatives as well as the Emirate's ability to adapt to changing regional and international circumstances. As such, this article provides an example of how a small, wealthy state like Qatar can skillfully generate a sophisticated, independent foreign policy agenda that differentiates itself from its larger and influential neighbors, while simultaneously upgrading its international profile and gaining regional prominence.

Every day that Israel pounds Gaza brings more converts to the BDS cause, and talk of ceasefires is doing little to slow the momentum. Support is even emerging among Israeli Jews. In the midst of the assault roughly 500 Israelis, dozens of them well-known artists and scholars, sent a letter to foreign ambassadors stationed in Israel. It calls for "the adoption of immediate restrictive measures and sanctions" and draws a clear parallel with the antiapartheid struggle. The boycott on South Africa was effective, but Israel is handled with kid gloves.... This international backing must stop.
Punitive measures will alienate radier than persuade Israelis. The world has tried what used to be called "constructive engagement." It has failed utterly. Since 2006 Israel has been steadily escalat...

When I was in Israel earlier [last] month, I told Prime Minister Olmert that the United States would not tolerate Hamas attacks on Israel. I reinforced the overwhelming view in Congress that Hamas is not only an impediment to peace between Israel and the Palestinians, but also to Israel's efforts to establish normal diplomatic relations with many in the Arab world.
