WOOSTER -- Members of the fourth graduating class from the International Baccalaureate Program of the Tri-county International Academy have completed coursework and are now graduates of their respective high schools. Twelve seniors from five area high schools concluded two rigorous years of study. These young men and women are candidates for receiving the internationally prestigious IB Diploma. They are awaiting the results of their IB exams which will determine whether or not they will earn the IB Diploma. They are awaiting the results of their IB exams, which will determine whether or not they will receive the IB Diploma which is highly regarded throughout the world as a measure of excellence in a demanding college preparatory program of studies.

About 10 percent of California seniors, or 46,768 students, have yet to pass the state exit exam required for a diploma, according to results released Thursday by the California Department of Education. In the East San Gabriel Valley, more than 600 seniors, or 9.5 percent, have yet to pass the California High School Exit Exam.
The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of two adult basic reading programs, Direct Instruction Corrective Reading Decoding and Laubach Literacy, on the reading achievement of incarcerated male adults (n = 27) in an Alabama prison. Participants were tutors and students taking part in a reading tutoring program at the facility. The student participants were reading below the 5th grade level precluding them from participating in the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) program. Instruction by the tutors was implemented over a six month period. BANGOR - The Maine Department of Education appears to be taking some - but not all - of Bangor's advice about adjusting the high school diploma to reflect achievement of the state's academic standards, Superintendent Robert Ervin said Monday. The current research hypothesizes that high school club participation increases future earnings. The data used to test this theory is the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth, 1979 cohort, rounds 1-20 (NLSY79) (Bureau of Labor Statistics 2004), which collected information on individuals from 1979 through 2002. Initially, the survey was conducted on a representative sample of 12,686 persons. These individuals were surveyed annually from 1979 until 1994 and biannually thereafter.
