BANGOR, Maine -- The local agency that coordinates transportation funding and projects in the greater Bangor region is breaking away from Eastern Maine Development Corp., which has been its parent organization for the past quarter-century. The Bangor Area Comprehensive Transportation System will be an independent nonprofit as of April 1, according to Art Morgan, Bangor's city engineer and chairman of BACTS' board.
The Baltimore Development Corp. will seek approval from Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake next week to give about $45 million in rent incentives to The Cordish Cos. to offset losses at the Power Plant. David S. Cordish, owner of the company, personally requested the incentives Thursday in a plea to the BDC board.
Despite the $170 million loss of its Small Business Administration lending program, more than 10 employees and a move to downsize its space, Roz Goldmacher, the Long Island Development Corp. chief, insists her organization has returned to its original mission and has been growing the number of loans it makes through two programs. Earlier this year the boards of directors from the Greater Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce and the Colorado Springs Regional began meeting to talk about merging. When they found that a merger would be beneficial to both organizations, they created a "unification committee" to draft a plan for what the new organization would look like, how it would function and who would lead it.
