I think Councilwoman [JoAnn Watson] has done an outstanding job of reaching out to the community, with regard to health insurance and more, as far as trying to build the Africa Town Black business area and what not," said Minister Malik Shabazz. "I think she's done a great job.
Shabazz said Watson has been working with Dr. Claud Anderson, author of "Black Labor, White Wealth," "Dirty Little Secrets" and "PowerNomics," doing research on finding areas and purchasing property where there can be a Black business district.
"She was instrumental in the hiring of Dr. Claud Anderson, who now works for the City of Detroit, and I think it's a great thing that when citizens' trash isn't being picked or street lights are out, they can always call on Councilwoman Watson."

In March 2010, when Detroit Medical Center's (DMC) Board of Directors announced its plans to transition from non-profit to for-profit, it was the biggest healthcare industry news to hit the region in a long time. When we put new worldclass facilities behind our world-class staff, we'll be able to compete," [Mike Duggan] said. "We'll create a new skyline for our DMC campus, with glass and steel towers, pedestrian skywalks and other enhancements. This is what our patients, our employees and our city deserve.
