The onset of stroke can be as subtle as a slight numbness in an arm or a leg, or as overt as a sudden excruciating headache. The harsh reality is that each year 700,000 people in the United States suffer a new or recurrent stroke. That translates into an occurrence of stroke every 45 minutes and a death from stroke every three minutes.
Detroit Receiving Hospital is home to one of the leading stroke teams in the state. This award-winning team is dedicated and available 24 hours a day, with access to a CT scanner, the "clot-busting" drug tPA, an inter-arterial clot buster, and the newly FDA-approved Merci Clot Retriever at all times.
