The Daytona 500 auto race ruled daytime ratings last weekend among sports telecasts in the Milwaukee television market.
NASCAR's main event had a rating of 14.3 on WTMJ-TV (Channel 4), or an estimated 125,897 households. That rating was up about 13% from the race in 2005, when it delivered a 12.6, or 111,736 households, when it aired on WITI-TV (Channel 6).

Many rally-goers this year ventured north 15 miles to Ormond Beach and Bruce Rossmeyer's Destination Daytona. One could spend the whole day browsing the monstrous showroom of Daytona H-D, as well as the many aisles of vendors filling up the parking lot. J&P Cycles' new retail location is right next door; so is Arlen Ness' Daytona dealership and The Trike Shop. Kuryakyn has set up shop at Destination Daytona since it opened three years ago.

DAYTONA IS WAY different than the Myrtle Beach situation. Daytona is more of a destination with races, etc., and they announced it over a year ahead of time. About the only ones affected in Daytona are the people with times shares that have been charging outrageous rates for years. Daytona wants the bikers and Myrtle Beach does not, so the high and mighty Myrtle Beach Harley shop takes it upon themselves to change the date and get the whole rally in question. ... They played right into the hands of the anti rally people. Wonder who's side the Harley shop is on.
It was always humorous how they contradicted themselves. They were intended to be a pep talk and get a salesman's blood flowing to encourage a momentum of sales and good attitudes throughout the day. But they always turned into a...

I FIRST WENT TO DAYTONA BIKE WEEK in 1 980, and while I haven't attended every year's edition I've been to more than I've missed. Back then, the major attraction for me was the road racing. Daytona was an international event, and teams and fans came from all over the world to compete, and enjoy the competition and the weather.
Bruce Rossmeyer's sprawling Destination Daytona complex off of Highway 1 and I-95 has become the mecca for any V-twin rider making the pilgrimage to Florida. Getting into the parking lot can be a half-hour ordeal at certain times of the day, but if you've planned everything correctly you really never have to leave. There's everything on site you could possibly want: a hotel, restaurants, a Triumph and Ducati dealership, and the landmark Harley-Davidson dealership....

It snowed in Atlanta last week, and it's feeling like Dayton should be a springbreak destination. (We're almost Daytona.) I'm half expecting to see The Weather Channel do a live shot any day now from balmy Courthouse Square.
A-10 sleepers: How many "bubble teams" would like to have wins over Kansas, Dayton and Rhode Island on their NCAA tournament resume? More than a few. UMass has wins over those three, but the unpredictable Minutemen go into the Atlantic 10 tourney with a 12- 17 record that would make Paul Revere turn his horse around and head for Maine.
